Overview
Archive NoteEuridice draws on the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice and emerged from Florentine experiments in sung drama around 1600.
The opera was created for Medici wedding festivities. Peri's earlier Dafne is generally considered a pioneering opera, but its music has not survived in complete form. Monteverdi's 1607 L'Orfeo occupies a different distinction as an early opera still regularly staged.
