Overview
Archive NoteFive F-1 engines powered the first stage of Saturn V, burning kerosene and liquid oxygen. The engine first flew on the uncrewed Apollo 4 test mission on 9 November 1967.
Its gas-generator cycle diverts a portion of propellant to drive turbopumps. A single-chamber engine record should not be confused with multi-chamber engine or complete rocket thrust rankings.
