Overview
Archive NoteNo-limit freediving permits an athlete to descend along a guide rope on a weighted sled and ascend using a buoyancy device. That differs from constant-weight and free-immersion disciplines, so the distances are not directly interchangeable.
Nitsch made his 253-metre dive as part of the Extreme 800 project. Guinness records the location and date, and notes that he suffered severe decompression sickness after the attempt, highlighting the risks of this form of diving.
