Overview
Archive NoteIn the 50-metre freestyle, swimmers race one pool length in a standard long-course pool. The event puts a premium on starts, stroke efficiency, and sprint speed without requiring a turn.
McEvoy surpassed Brazilian César Cielo's 20.91-second mark from December 2009, a period associated with high-tech swimsuits that were subsequently restricted under swimming regulations.
His performance came at the 2026 China Swimming Open, held from 19 to 22 March at Shenzhen's Longgang Universiade Center Natatorium. World Aquatics lists the swim as a world record in its official athlete results.
