2025
2Africa was developed by a consortium including Meta and telecommunications operators across Africa, the Middle East and Asia. The core system links African coasts with Europe, the Middle East and South Asia.
Meta and Telecom Egypt announced completion of core infrastructure in November 2025. The full 45,000-km project figure includes the Pearls extension still scheduled for service in 2026, so it is not presented as completed active cable length in 2025.
The record conclusion has sufficient verification support.
Basis: direct confirmation by an authority
Both Meta Engineering and independent consortium participant Telecom Egypt directly identify 2Africa as the first continuous subsea cable to link East and West Africa. Core completion is distinguished from planned system length.
