At the 2021 World Championships, Talakhadze set world records in the snatch, clean and jerk, and total in the then +109 kg division. His successful lifts were 225 kg and 267 kg.
The final 267-kg attempt was initially called a no-lift before video review reversed the ruling. The IWF later confirmed his marks as the best ever recorded across category changes.
