Archive NoteOn 26 December 2025 the Xi'an-Yan'an high-speed railway opened, taking China's high-speed rail operating mileage past 50,000 km.
By the end of 2025 the network totalled about 50,400 km, roughly 70% of the global total, while China's entire railway network reached 165,000 km.
High-speed rail covers 97% of Chinese cities with an urban population of more than 500,000, and China also leads the world in commercial high-speed rail operating speed.
