Overview

Archive Note

Qutb Minar forms part of the Qutb complex in Delhi. Its red and buff sandstone structure includes carved inscriptions and projecting balconies and is associated with the early Delhi Sultanate.

UNESCO gives a height of 72.5 metres, a base diameter of 14.32 metres and a top diameter of about 2.75 metres. The record measures overall structural height, not observation platform elevation or altitude above sea level.

Construction began around the end of the 12th century, with subsequent alterations and repairs by later rulers. The 1993 World Heritage inscription refers to the broader monument complex and is not a building completion date.
