Overview
Archive NoteThe route links Queen's Road Central with Conduit Road in Hong Kong's Mid-Levels, connecting commercial and residential hillside neighbourhoods. It comprises multiple escalators, moving walkways and connecting pedestrian sections, not a single continuous escalator.
The Hong Kong Transport Department lists 16 reversible one-way escalators and three moving walkways. A technical paper from the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department reports a vertical gain of about 135 metres, which is different from the 800-metre route length.
Opened in 1993 and subsequently refurbished in phases, the system runs generally downhill during the morning commute and uphill at other times. Its main purpose is everyday public transport rather than amusement.
