Overview
Archive NoteThe stairway follows the Niesenbahn funicular on Mount Niesen and serves railway maintenance. The railway opened in 1910, which Guinness records as the date associated with the stairway.
The operator reports 11,674 steps and a vertical difference of about 1,669 metres between Mülenen at the base and the summit area. The route passes the Schwandegg intermediate station and includes lower and upper stair sections.
Unrestricted public access is prohibited. The operator holds the Niesen Stairway Run and provides limited authorized training opportunities, so the record does not imply an unrestricted hiking route.
