Overview

Archive Note

Peregrine falcons enter high-speed stoops while hunting and are recognized as the fastest-diving birds.

Peer-reviewed research commonly cites dive speeds of up to about 320 km/h. In a special 1999 high-altitude experiment, the trained peregrine Frightful was directly recorded at 242 mph (about 389.46 km/h); that experimental peak is retained as a supporting fact rather than the main Entry value.
