The jackfruit tree belongs to the mulberry family, Moraceae. Its massive multiple fruits develop along the trunk and major branches, unlike vine-borne produce such as giant pumpkins, making tree-borne fruit mass a distinct comparison.
The present certified specimen was grown by Hugh Forthman on a family farm in Homestead, Florida. It weighed 54.43 kg, verified on 22 August 2024, replacing an earlier record of 42.72 kg rather than revising the mass of that earlier fruit.
Older registry materials report a 42.72-kg specimen verified on 23 June 2016. The current entry uses the 2024 result; the former figure is preserved as historical context only, since this create-candidate interface does not expose separate historical-entry creation.
