World's Highest Railway
Chinese official material records that the highest point of the Qinghai–Tibet Railway, on the Xining–Lhasa section, lies at the Tanggula Pass at 5,072 m, making it the world's highest railway.

Overview
Archive NoteConstruction of the Qinghai–Tibet Railway began in 1958; the Xining–Golmud section opened in 1984 and the Golmud–Lhasa section was completed in October 2005.
The Xining–Lhasa section opened to traffic on 1 July 2006, replacing the Andean railway in Peru as the world's highest railway.
The Tanggula station at 5,068 m is the world's highest railway station, and the Fenghuoshan tunnel at 4,905 m the world's highest permafrost tunnel.
