The 1913 reading was taken by the US National Weather Service at the Furnace Creek station and is accepted by both the US National Extremes Committee and the WMO Archive.
The former 1922 record of 57.8 °C at Aziziya, Libya, was decertified in 2012; two 54.4 °C readings at Death Valley in the 2020s remain under verification.
