Overview

Archive Note

Nominal GDP converted into current US dollars measures the value of final output using market exchange rates. It is distinct from inflation-adjusted real GDP and from GDP per capita.

The World Bank reports roughly US$30.77 trillion for the United States in 2025 and about US$19.50 trillion for China on the same measure. The ranking concerns aggregate nominal scale, not the average income or purchasing power of residents.

Nominal-GDP and PPP-GDP leadership can differ because the conversion bases differ. The year 2025 is the period covered by the observation, not the date the United States first took the lead; national-accounts revisions may change reported values.
