Overview
Archive NotePurchasing-power-parity GDP uses relative national price levels to compare the volume of output, rather than converting economies using market exchange rates. It is a total-GDP measure, not a per-capita measure.
In the World Bank's 2025 figures, China recorded roughly 41.26 trillion current international dollars, versus about 30.77 trillion for the United States and 17.20 trillion for India. China leads this PPP measure, whereas the nominal-dollar GDP ranking has a different leader.
The series draws on the International Comparison Program and national accounts. An international dollar is a statistical accounting unit rather than traded currency; the reference year does not establish the date China first became the largest PPP economy.
