In 1602, the Dutch East India Company (VOC) issued tradable shares in Amsterdam, a landmark in the development of organised securities trading.
In 2000, the Amsterdam, Paris and Brussels exchanges merged to form Euronext; the Amsterdam market continues today as Euronext Amsterdam.
