Overview
Archive NoteChebet achieved the time at the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene. World Athletics reported that the race doubled as a Kenyan Olympic selection competition, and that Chebet had not initially been the main contender attempting the record.
Her 28:54.14 improved Letesenbet Gidey's previous world record of 29:01.03 set in 2021 by 6.89 seconds. Ethiopia's Gudaf Tsegay finished second in 29:05.92 in the same race.
This record concerns the standard track 10,000 metres and is not interchangeable with road 10 km records. World Athletics still lists this result as a world record, with the date tied to the race rather than to article updates.
