Overview

Archive Note

Located in Niigata Prefecture and operated by TEPCO, the station has five 1,100 MW reactors and two 1,356 MW advanced boiling-water reactors.

The units remained shut for years after Fukushima. Unit 6 returned to commercial operation on 16 April 2026; installed capacity does not mean all seven units are generating.

Verification basis and limitations

Verified

The record conclusion has sufficient verification support.

Basis: direct confirmation by an authority

TEPCO reports 8,212 MW as summed installed capacity of seven completed units, not currently operational output. Unit 6 resumed commercial operation on 16 April 2026; other units may remain shut. IAEA site data support capacity; the worldwide superlative is understood as site-level completed-unit nameplate capacity.
