An international research team involving and led by Japan's National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) demonstrated about 450 terabits per second over a field-deployed legacy single-mode fiber link in London, setting a record for this class of deployed fiber transmission.

Archive NoteThe experiment used a field-deployed fiber link in the UK National Dark Fibre Facility between University College London and the Telehouse North data center.
The 39 km link used O-, E-, S-, C- and L-band transmission across 42.4 THz of bandwidth.
The reported GMI-based estimated data rate reached 450 Tb/s; the paper abstract also reports 418 Tb/s decoded throughput.
