Overview
Archive NoteBaihetan Hydropower Station is located on the Jinsha River on the border of Ningnan County in Sichuan Province and Qiaojia County in Yunnan Province, China. With a total installed capacity of 16 million kilowatts, it is the world's second-largest hydropower station after the Three Gorges station.
Its two underground powerhouses house 16 hydro-generating units, each with a capacity of 1 million kilowatts (1,000 MW) — the largest single-unit capacity in the world — all independently developed in China.
The first units began operation on 28 June 2021, and all units were in operation by 20 December 2022.
